more terrain work

Image
Hey its been a while but as we approach the starting point of the campaign ive been working on the map and terrain for it. Here's what I've got so far. The fortress monastery, with orbital defense gun. Looks pretty cool. this is a view of the back. This is a view of the side. Just the defense laser itself the map of the planet sipho. Sci-fi generator thing All and all things are coming together.

Prepping for a campaign with terrain!

Image
Well my last campaign was a so so event, a major learning experience, and this time around I've made it so that I won't being directly participating. But with the new gaming club a little understocked I've decided to contribute in a major way. Terrain! So one thing we really need is a jungle terrain theme. So here's my efforts at that. All of these peices have a steel washer affixed to the underside. I am considering that this could then be affixed magnetically to the base using magnetic strips, which will help to keep them together. I also needed something like an evil shrine to be the site of some cultist worship. That is all carved from pink foam except for the skull which is a cardboard skull from a halloween sale a michaels hobby and craft store. I need to paint it up but it should have some nice jungle features added to it. Lastly I've been getting a kind of generatorum complex together using humus containers and hot glue and sequins...

November is the cruelest month...

Image
Some new tidings to report on. Unfortunately fate has conspired against me for the past month meaning I haven't been able to get to play using my Dark Angles much but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy. I've mainly been working some terrain projects. Creating a jungle forest, river system and a temple of desecration. Here is some of the photos of the jungle. I wanted to make some jungle terrain which meant trees and some shrubbery. I really like the look that they have on the Tau Wahammer world board. These are nice for a couple reasons: all the trees are about the same height and they are all shorter than the tallest building giving a sence of scale. I would have loved to recreate these but I couldn't find those leaves anywhere. They are big broad and leafy. but I found something close, and then I found stuff at michaels that was more palm tree like so I went with it. giving me this.

Autumnal happenings

Image
So in the immortal words of Adam Sandler... What the hell happened to me? Well there haven't been many developments in 40k lately since playing against and losing  to eldar really sapped my playing mojo. but just because I haven't been playing doesn't mean i haven't been busy... The majority of my time has been spent building terrain. So will start with the WIP.

Terrain update: Building a city in ruins...

Image
For those that follow this space, ive been working on my own home gaming space due to the fact that my old, much beloved gaming club is now pretty far away. So I have now aquired the sector imperialis and there shall be many city battles that take place. Here is the progress so far. The Fortress monastery - there have been some new developments on this huge  building but it remains unfinished so far. the battlements have been added and the external towers have been built to support the anti-air guns. The orbital laser shall be placed where the vengence batteries currently sit.

New terrain projects

Image
So i have some new terrain projects up and running. First up is the one i've made the most progress on the Hydrostation Powerdam, or the latin equivalent of that phrase. I have always been inspired by this project on warseer, and the acid dam from the 6th ed rule book.

Campaign Update: week 3

Image
Much action centered around the the battles of the northern continent last week with the Eldar losing out to the necrons of the Nekthyst Dynasty. The Orks battled on two fronts and were able to use a diversion in the southern continent while they battled the Cadian 325th to take land west of the the Killjar range. Meanwhile Coven of the Black Sun attacked the Ghazkull pushing him out of Hive mellaj and staking their claim as masters of Umbral. This week saw a reduction in volume of attacks as the Generals of Umbral Void carefully planned their next move.

Campaign for Umbral Void: Geolocations

Image
I was thinking that it might be useful to be able to describe things/battles based on more than just their orientation to the hive cities. So these maps serve to give a sense of the names of some of the  geography of the locations around the world map.

Castellum stronghold update 2

Image
Here is the nearly finished Castellum Stronghold. The turret mounts aren't finished yet but the whole thing is a lot less pink so thats an improvement. Here is the overview of the entire thing.

Castellum Stronghold update

Heres the newest progress on the Castellum Stronghold. I hope to start painting this week.

Table update: First paint layer

Image
There's been quite a bit of progress since the last update. I cleared off the sand that had covered the terrain boards and coated them with primer. One of the mistakes that I made was that I only placed glue on the underside of the table squares, then i primed the table grey. Unfortunately the surface layer of sand was still too loose so I added another PVA/elmers glue layer. Table before adding more glue to the surface, but after priming.

Terrain project: Table update

Image
Been putting a lot of work in on the table. I have been able to plaster over the hill and a couple other surfaces to give a rocky effect, once its painted. Bark embedded in the plaster to give a rock effect.

Current projects: game table and terrain.

Image
Currently while on the job hunt I've been working on developing my own realm of battle board and castellum stronghold. I haven't made much progress on the apocalypse battle report yet but perhaps that's next up. Early Castellum stronghold.

The walls of Rasputin Forge at Cypra Primus

Image
Another thing I've been working on has been the walls of the Rasputin Forge compound. There are eight identical sections. Inside there will be the refinery entrance, the generator relay and the generator control node. Here are the walls them selves.
