Apocalypse of Umbral Void: The Battle of the Hive from Hell

The marine/tau army featured Tau fire support with tanks and four Riptides in the back. The guard brought four Leman Russ tanks in the back. The marine contingent was several three man squads of grav armed bikers, melta armed Land Speeders and I think five? Drop podding dual-melta contempt or dreads. Also appearing was a land raider packed with 20 marines led by the dreaded primarch of the Emperors Children. Additionally, their team fielded an immobilized bane blade as a campaign bonus.

The Necron/Ork/Mechanicum force was much more eclectic. Each general brought a Superheavy to the table just for the heck of it, so Ghazhkull's personal bane blade (containing of course a mob of Meganobz and the Big Boss Himself) and a Necron Transcendant C'tan. Beyond that it was a mess of transports, tanks, infantry and bikers.

Turn one, the Marine Drop strike led first. Five crazed dreads hammered down to obstruct the approaching horde, but their meltas were for the most part thwarted by Jink saves, Superheavy armor and sheer luck on our side with bad to hit/to pen rolls. Commander Farsight, in a calculated gambit, landed on the enemy sky shield pad and unleashed hellfire on the Mechanicum Myrmidons to silence their conversion beamers before they could be fired. In the end, hull points were down but the horde rolled on. In response, all but one of the dreads fell to concentrated gauss fire and the devastating paths of the Superheavy tank and godlike Ctan monster.

Turn two, the marines attempted another surgical strike with their grav-bikes and melta speeders while the tau brought massive fire to bear on any exposed infantry. Ion accelerator and melta beam took a deadly toll, but the raucous Ork horde rolled on, inspired by the awesome display of power by their esteemed leader. In an uneven wave, the greenskins collided with the Astartes ranks while the Emperor's children Land Raider that was to be their supporting muscle exploded to a Necron surgical strike. Only the strength of the primarch enabled him to survive the baleful fire unleashed by the unfettered star god as his men were forced to disembark-an entire Space Marine squad reduced to one furious warrior.

Turn three , a squad of mechanicum Thallax judged their numerical advantage sufficient to challenge the lone power armored figure, but even the perfection of the machine proved no match for the vengeful wrath of a scion of the emperor-all nine were torn to shreds in the blink of an eye. The Ctan do not brook insolence from mere mortals easily, however, and one again the star-beam carved across his path. A cursory scan of the area by the Magos' complex optics array revealed not a single organic molecule-whether the primarch's ultimate demise had taken place, or he had escaped by some trickery of his infernal masters, the combatants had no time to speculate.

By turn five, however, their lines wavered. The sheer number of the foe gave them a kind of implacable lumbering momentum, and not even the steady fire from the Riptides and bane blade could stem the green tide. The great Warboss himself vaulted from his tank after a quick bellowed order to "squash anyfink wot moves" and joined the fray, guffawing cheerily as he tossed bikers and speeders alike about like rag dolls with his faithful Mega-Armor Corps(e).

The enraged and increasingly unstable Ctan hurled itself into the enemy lines, leaving a trail of twisted steel and charred bodies as it went, and the opposing army withdrew to safety. The baneblade say immobile, however, and continued to hammer the ctan's corporeal form with all guns as its allies retreated. As the maddened star god carved into the ancient war machine, it discovered the final gambit of the Astartes-a vortex grenade, rigged as a mine at the heart of the tank's machine spirit cortex. The resulting explosion of the transcendent Ctan was absorbed into the all consuming nothingness of the vortex, and its dying shrieks signaled the end of the hostilities.
