Back Order Batrep, Apocalypse at Ithacus

The Back Order Batrep is something that helps met get more pretty pictures on the web. Its not always possible to do comic writeups for all the batreps.The written variety serve to give a bit more showcase to models or battles that don't have the complete aesthetic picture, but were fun games non-the-less.

The Apocalypse on Ithacus
After losing several battles in attempting to get acess to the hidden cache of archeotech and weapons on the planets Industrial zone, the Dark Angels Attempted to muster a last push to gain enough time for the tech preists to complete the data transfer of Inventory manifests. This activity would prove to the inner circle that activity on Ithacus would be well worth it, should the logs show items that had long forgotten STC blueprints. As this activity took place, a massive push forced a majority of synapse creatures out of the industrial zone. The Dark Angels were instructed to hold the city at the collapsed southern city wall and transport corridor, while techpriests frantically searched the munitions cache database. It was there that the Hive mind made its push.

Hive mind advances forward with Hormagaunts and gargoyles leaping over the wall. While the hive gurd advance and immobilieze the crusader.

In response the dark Angels make a hard push against the left flank. The ravenwing calls down a Deathwing assault and and cleanses the gargoyles using flamers. 

With Bellerophon and his retinue exposed the the trygon , smashes its way into the right flank. 

The hive mind surges forward with the hormagaunts advancing over the wall and heading straight for the enemy lines while the tyranofex provides cover.
Hive tyrant swoops back onto the field ready to lay waste to the marines.

A mawloc assaults into the enemy trying to take out the central battle line being anchored by the tactical squad. Gene stealers our flank next to the deathwing on the left flank.

With no alternative the Deathwing assault the genestealers hoping that their armor will hold versus the rending claws of the xenos.

Seeing the tacticals in danger, Brother Chaplain Pious, gives the command and the deathwing command squad leap from the crusader and engage the Mawloc. 

Attempting to force weapon the trygon, bellerophon falls to the might of the trygon.

with the trygon dead the and the horde adancing the strom eagle arrives, blasting apart the hormagauts adavancing on the dark angel lines. The Deathwing remain locked with the genesteaers, the central threats have been dealt with by the remaining deathwing, the carcasses of trygon and mawloc litter the ground.  

The command squad has been decimated! Shooting from the carnifexes and termagants brings down the entire retinue of chaplain pious, leaving him alone against the tide of devilgaunts. The storm eagle continues to pound away at the hormagaunts, but cant drop its payload. In assault their are mixed results. On the left flank the terminators are locked with the genestealers, keeping the broodlord at bay. The central terminators can't make their charge against the tervigon, while the terminators on the left are locked in combat with the carnifex.

Sadly the Dark Angels were instructed to withdraw, at this juncture, the hammernators never able to leave the storm eagle (aka game had to end as our time limit was up). The tyranids claimed the victory, and the Dark Angels made their preparations to withdraw from the the planet, giving it up for lost.
