Dark Angel Codex thoughts
Dark Angel Codex
I just wanted to give some quick thoughts on the new Dark Angels Codex.
I actually really think the codex is pretty great. It has quite a few new options. The backstory has gotten updated and fleshed out a bit with the dark angels getting a lot of new "fluff" pertaining to their maintence of hidden archeotech that they employ in battle. Fun stuff. Here is my list of codex winners and losers.
Winners
Sammael - I dont own his model but i will now. This guy is a beast and im looking forward to trying him out. AP 2 at initaitve is always nice, plus a boatload of special rules.
Belial - iron halo is pretty nice.
Librarians - price drop and good selection of powers.
Ravenwing Assault squads - These guys are cheaper and more effective now. I think they are still an excellent melta platform and got a lot more useful with hit and run.
Black knights/Dark shroud - These guys are now the most powerful unit in the codex and maybe the best fast attack in the game. They are crazy powerful and can be futher buffed by the presence of the dark shroud.
Tactical squads/assaultsquads - Price drop helps alot.
scouts - can actually be fielded now.
Deathwing terminators - with vengeful strike,split fire and ability to score with belial, these guys are the best at what they do. the black knights are still better at pure killing, but taking larger squads can really help the longevity of these guys now. The Deathwing Knights are good but i like the scoring power of regular termies more.
Whirlwinds - price drop helps this thing a ton.
Banners - the banners are tons of fun. There are tactics that can used with each. The Banners that are especially good seem to be Stand. of Devastation, RW banner, and the Standard of Fortitude. Some of the other banners i haven't quite figured out yet but maybe i just need to think outside the box a bit.
Dark Talon - Synergy machine that is especially good versus shooty armies like tau and necrons.
Losers
landspeeder vengence - this thing fires 3 plasma guns can over heat and wreck it, huh? I dont get it.
Nephillim jet fighter - from what ive seen of flyers it is exceedingly difficult to get into the rear arc of an enemy flyer. this means the nephillim cant really do much versus those AV 12 flyers, but it is likely to kill other flyers quickly. the points make it tough to justify.
