The Malacant Device
Communique to the 389th Regent of Terran interstellar anomalies
Regent Liberius:
The ongoing warpstorm of Galleus system, has recently subsided long enough for us to reestablish contact with the the planet Axos, an agri-world, reclaimed in m32.679. Warp winds have ravaged the planet and while there is no evidence of demon taint, warp tessera was found near at the following coodinates 67*34'21"N,127* 77' 45"W. Preliminary investigation by the local Axos research council has digitally indexed it and claim it to be greater than 70millenia old. This dating places it firmly in the frame of eldar, necron, or possibly "Old One" tech. The head of the research of Axos call it, "the Malacant Device." Not much else is known about this, however its power signature spiked on the readout and produced a halyon level of 64 million units. This fact alone is enough to peak my interest. The IPD (inter-planetary defense) forces are minimal and the planetary governor has a small personal militia. They will not be able to repel any serious effort by hostiles to capture the device. I have dispatched the Dark Angel's Chapter to the planet to procure this item, Grand Master Belial has been placed in command of the task force. While they are eccentric chapter, Azreal, is dependable. We can expect the populace to hand over the device without incident.
Assesment of Threats
There has been recent Necron activity in the area, surely they may also be interested in this device. Though we are unsure of their tomb world of origin we can assume they are extremely potent. An imperial battle patrol in the Lulac sector has repeatedly come under attack and have had to withdraw from several encounters, with both fleet and ground forces, which puts the Necrons on a collision course for Axos. Let us hope the adeptus astartes are up to the task.

This was my first ever game using flyers or the mortis dread. i was really excited to field them and see how they would hold up against a good necron player. I had only played necrons once before so i knew it would be a challenge. this game was played in 6th ed. prior to the new DA codex.
Tactical Analysis:
Sadly I was not able to win the day but after careful review i can see where i made my mistakes. There were three types of mistakes made here deployment, strategic, and tactical, though deployment and strategic errors can be lumped together.
Deployment: the dreadnaught started off not be able to see beyond the wall. at the time i wanted him to be safe from any long range weapons by being be...

Great game! Excellent job with the narratives in the pictures (and good camera skills capturing all the important parts of the game).
ReplyDeleteWe'll have to have a rematch, I'm sure now that Belial has fully recuperated in his Bacta Tank he'll want a to fight Overlord Myrdu in Single Combat again.
